Description
The CD4018 is a presettable divide-by-N counter IC, a Johnson-style counter whose division ratio can be preset via external connections, letting it divide an input clock by a configurable value.
This presettable structure gives more flexibility than fixed-ratio counters, letting the same IC be configured for different division ratios depending on how its preset inputs are wired.
