The CD4051 is a single 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer IC, routing one of 8 single-ended analog input/output channels to a common line based on a 3-bit binary select code.
Working bidirectionally, it can act as a multiplexer (selecting one of 8 inputs to route to a single output) or a demultiplexer (routing a single input to one of 8 outputs), a flexible signal-routing component for both analog and digital signals.
Part of the CD40xx CMOS logic family, this IC is a standard building block for expanding limited analog input pins on microcontrollers.
