CD4511 BCD to 7-segment Latch/Decoder/Driver

The CD4511 is a BCD-to-7-segment latch, decoder, and driver IC from the 40xx series of CMOS logic. Designed to interface binary-coded decimal (BCD) inputs with common-cathode 7-segment displays, this chip accepts a 4-bit BCD input and translates it into the appropriate segment-driving outputs to display decimal digits 0 through 9. The integrated latch allows BCD data to be held and displayed even after the input changes, freeing the system bus.

Internally, the device combines a storage latch, a BCD-to-7-segment decoder, and output drivers capable of sinking significant current for direct LED display operation. A lamp test input forces all segments on for display verification, while a blanking input can be used to suppress unwanted outputs or for multiplexing applications. The CD4511 operates across a wide voltage range, making it suitable for battery-powered instrumentation, digital clocks, and panel meters.
