Thermal Transfer PCB Paper‏

Thermal Transfer PCB Paper is a specialized transfer medium used in the DIY toner-transfer method of PCB fabrication. A circuit layout is printed onto the paper using a standard laser printer — the toner sits on the paper’s coated surface rather than soaking into fibers like ordinary paper would.

The printed sheet is then placed toner-side-down against a copper-clad board and heat is applied, typically with a household iron or a laminator. The heat melts the toner and transfers it onto the copper surface, leaving a toner mask of the circuit pattern that resists etchant.

Once the board is etched, the copper not protected by the toner mask is dissolved away, leaving the intended circuit traces — making this paper a low-cost way to prototype custom PCBs without commercial fabrication.
