Description
The 2N3440 is a silicon epitaxial planar NPN transistor in a TO-39 metal case, designed for consumer and industrial line-operated equipment where high voltage handling matters. It carries a 250V collector-emitter and 300V collector-base rating with 1A continuous collector current, and is particularly suited as a driver in high-voltage, low-current inverters, switching circuits, and series regulators.
With hFE of 40-160 at 20mA and a 15MHz transition frequency, it has enough gain and speed for switching applications well above typical low-voltage transistor ranges, backed by fast 1µs turn-on and 10µs turn-off times.
