The 2N4427 is an NPN silicon overlay transistor housed in a TO-39 metal package with the collector connected to the case, purpose-built for VHF and UHF RF equipment. It’s rated for a minimum of 1W output power at 175MHz with 10dB minimum power gain, making it a classic choice for driver and pre-driver stages, oscillators, and frequency multipliers in the VHF/UHF range.
