Description
The CD40193 is an 8-bit binary up/down counter from the 40xx series CMOS logic family. This fully synchronous presettable counter features separate clock inputs for counting up and counting down, allowing independent control of counting direction. The 8-bit parallel load capability enables initialization to any starting value, while asynchronous clear and borrow/carry outputs support multi-stage cascading into wider counters.
Internally, the CD40193 uses four synchronously clocked flip-flops arranged as a binary counter, with additional logic for direction control and presetting. Separate up and down clock inputs provide maximum flexibility for applications requiring independent count direction control. Typical uses include digital frequency synthesis, programmable dividers, event counting, and position encoding in instrumentation and control systems.
