CD4503 Tri-state Hex Buffer

The CD4503 is a hex buffer with tri-state outputs, part of the 40xx series CMOS logic family. This device provides six independent non-inverting buffers, each featuring a three-state output that can be placed in a high-impedance state under external control. A common enable input controls all six buffers simultaneously, making the CD4503 suitable for bus-oriented systems where multiple outputs share a common data line.

When the enable input is low, the outputs are active and drive the load in both high and low logic states. When the enable is high, the outputs enter a high-impedance state, effectively disconnecting the buffer from the bus and preventing bus contention. This tri-state capability, combined with the wide voltage tolerance of CMOS, makes the CD4503 ideal for memory address drivers, data bus interfaces, and digital signal distribution in microprocessor systems.
