Description
The CD4516 is a 4-bit binary up/down counter from the 40xx-series CMOS family, providing flexible bidirectional counting capability. The counter increments on the rising edge of the clock when the up/down control is high and decrements when the control is low. A preset input allows loading of any initial count value from 0 to 15, and an asynchronous reset clears the counter.
Operating from 3V to 18V, the CD4516 includes a carry/borrow output for cascading multiple stages in larger counting systems. The synchronous design ensures consistent timing across all count transitions, making this device suitable for digital counters, frequency dividers, and position encoders.
