Description
The CD4553 is a 3-digit BCD counter IC from the 40xx-series CMOS family, designed for multiplexed display applications. It counts input pulses and generates three parallel BCD outputs corresponding to the units, tens, and hundreds digits, with multiplexed digit select outputs for driving a 3-digit display with shared segment lines.
Operating from 3V to 18V, the CD4553 includes internal multiplexing circuitry that times the output of each digit sequentially, allowing a single 7-segment decoder and display driver to serve all three digits. This reduces component count in digital readout systems. A latch and blanking control provide display hold and suppression capabilities.
